Igor de Vetyemy

Igor de Vetyemy graduated in Architecture and Urbanism at “Federal University of Rio de Janeiro” in 2005. Before that, he joined courses of Architecture History at the ”University of Oxford”, England.
When still a student, he founded the “Garage Group”, with other colleagues. The office, installed in a garage, won several prizes.
In 2006, after having won some other prizes with his graduation project, the polemic “City of Sex”, he received good reviews by architects like Nigel Coates, of the renowned AA from London. De Vetyemy was invited to present this project in Rio de Janeiro’s City Hall, where the mayor César Maia had considered the possibility of it being buit. After this, many articles about the architect’s work where published in magazines and newspapers in several countries.
Still in 2006, De Vetyemy has become a professor at “Estacio de Sa University” and, later, at “Federal University of Rio de Janeiro”, teaching disciplines as “Ephemeral Architecture”, “Bioclimatic Architecture” and “Conception of the Architectural Form”.
In 2007, after having worked for three years with the renowned architect Indio da Costa, Igor founded his own office “Igor de Vetyemy arquitetura e design”.

Igor de Vetyemy Architecture and Design / Scope

May 23, 2008

Founded in 2007, January, the office “Igor de Vetyemy Architecture and Design” works with residential, commercial and institutional projects of any scale and counts on a team of projectors, students and designers, besides partners and consultants for specific projects. Because of the fast increasing first year of existence, the studio needed to grow physically, so it has created a new promising environment, located in a charming two floor centenary building in Lapa – a historic district in the center of Rio de Janeiro. The new space is shared by young designers, architects, landscape gardeners and publicists of other renowned offices.
Focusing eco-sustained architecture and formal research on spacing, Igor de Vetyemy Architecture and Design‘s projects aims at surprising the senses, emphasizing the “spectacular” aspect of architecture.

After all, architecture is spectacle! The rest is civil construction…
