Take  a Fresh Look at London

The “London Architecture Biennale” had it’s first edition in 2004, and consequently achieved enormous success by its second edition in 2006.  This year the event’s name has changed to London Festival of Architecture or LFA, a promising move which reflects the festival’s new scope encompassing various, and nonetheless varied, themes and events.  The LFA will take place between 20 June and 20 July 2008, and promises to be far reaching in London, exploring innumerable themes and engaging practicing professionals as well as members of the general public.

The theme of this year’s LFA: FRESH!, proposes various interpretations.  The main activities of the festival will focus on FRESH – emerging talents: a festival for students running parallel to the celebrations, and also of young practices and emerging international talents; FRESH – approach: questions how existing public spaces, buildings and organisations can be re-interpreted in order to respond more adequately to life in the modern city, through a variety of media; FRESH -Air: promoting sustainable transportation, drawing and construction, with a series of activities and installations taking place in open spaces; and finally FRESH -Food: exploring the system and space of local food production.

The celebration of the Architectural activities taking place in London is in association with the British Council, which in conjunction with the Embassies Project will allow for the participation of 20 countries.  Considered as important components of London, the embassies have the opportunity to exhibit architectural work coming from professionals in their respective countries, thus contributing the sui generis international character of the festival.
